Howl's Moving Castle

Apparently my days off are turning into movie days. Today, I (finally) watched Howl's Moving Castle, which is the latest Miyazaki film, which just happens to be based on a novel by one of my favorite authors. I <3 Diana Wynne Jones like it's nobody's business. :waggle

I must say that I highly enjoyed the movie. It's been long enough since I read the book that I'd forgotten almost all of the details, so it was fresh to me again. And now I'm looking at my bookshelf and trying to find the book. I am worried because I do not see it, but it's probably in the back row behind the Harry Potters.

Um. Calcifer is by far my favorite character in the movie. He cracks enough wise to amuse me, but there's a mystery to him, too. Oh, and the Witch of the Waste in the second half of the movie amuses me, as well. She's just a bitch in the first half, though. :|

I have seen complaints that Miyazaki turns the book into a big political commentary on war, but that's just his style. He tends to pick a different cause and wax on it in every film. *shrug*

All told, I liked it. And now I have added another book to my To-Be-Read pile. As if it wasn't big enough. *rolleyes*

Actually, he tends to wax on the same cause in every film. At least in the *counts on fingers* six? of his I've seen.

(He also looks REMARKABLY like my late grandfather, which is odd as my grandfather was a short Jewish man of eastern European descent.)

It's one of my top 5 movies of all time! I've read all the Chronicles of Chrestomanci but not Howl's Moving Castle. I really ought to read the book sometime since I love the movie so much *grin*

Hmm. Haven't watched this one yet, but I've seen it around. I guess I'll have to mosey over to amazon and buy me a copy, as I've loved his other works.
